The southern lapwing is a wader. It is a common and widespread resident throughout South America, except in densely forested regions (e.g. most of the Amazon), the higher parts of the Andes and the arid coast of a large part of western South America. This bird is particularly common in the basin of the Rio de la Plata.

The most striking bird I saw at Iguazu Falls. Like all Jays they are noisy and territorial, and above all quite attractive bird. Apart from the falls, Iguazu is part of a protected rainforest ecosystem and home to a great number of plants, birds, mammals species and more. A must see and should be on everyone bucket list.

The Great Kiskadee with his striking yellow chest, is the largest of the Tyrant Flycatchers, measuring up to 10 inches (26cm) from head to tail. It is present from southern USA through Central America to northern South America.

Males of this medium sized butterfly reflect a brilliant purple iridescence from the upper side wings. This butterfly breeds in rainforest habitats at altitudes from sea level to about 1600m.
Males are often seen on sunny forest tracks or along the beds of dry streams, imbibing mineral rich moisture from rocks.
