La Recoleta Cemetery, Buenos Aires

Main entrance to the famous cemetery in Buenos Aires.  One cannot be in Buenos Aires and not visit the place.  It contains the graves of notable people, including Eva Peron,  Presidents of Argentina, Nobel Prize winners,  and a granddaughter of Napoleon.  In 2011, the BBC hailed it as one of the world’s best cemeteries, and in 2013, CNN listed it among the 10 most beautiful cemeteries in the world.

The entire cemetery is laid out in sections like city blocks filled with mausoleums.

The cemetery contains many elaborate marble mausoleums, decorated with statues, in a wide variety of architectural styles such asArt Deco, Art Nouveau, Baroque and Neo-Gothic.

Tomb of this young lady in what appears to be in a wedding dress. and known for its unusual design.  She was young and killed in an hotel struck by an avalanche.  The bronze statue of the dog was added and legend reveals that if you touch the nose of the dog, you will return to Buenos Aires, reason for the shine on the dog’s nose.
